Cantora

I have become very interested in the book Cantora. In the beginning I was not very interested in the story nor the story line, but after a few pages I found that it was a story that I could become interested with. I like the fact that Alejandro was willing to leave and go and fight for what he wanted even with the risks. I am in Part 2 of the book and it has become more interesting as I read further and further. The only thing that has become a bit confusing with reading this is the name selection. I can understand there reasoning for keeping the names similar or the same because of the family dynamic but it becomes very confusing at times when trying to keep up with the story. I really am enjoying reading this story and i cannot wait to see the end result to everything.

Test Essay-Black Boy

Richard Wright is a strong and powerful writer that incorporates his own life experiences into his work making it much more relatable for the reader. I learned from reading Black Boy that even though your childhood isn’t picture perfect conditions and you may face hardships that you have to stay focused on your own goals and try your hardest always to achieve them.
In the beginning of the book he speaks of how he set fire to his house and also how his mother beat him unconscious. A lot of readers probably will not relate with the beating section of that story but more so with the part about doing something so horrific and doing something that would cause a lot of damage. Personally when I read that section, I could relate because I went through an experience that would have resulted badly if not stopped. For me that is always good to be able to relate to the author.
Another thing that I would take from Richards Wright’s story is that nothing will be handed to me on a silver plate. While reading Black Boy, I noticed that Wright went through a lot, not only in his childhood but in his adult life as well. He faced a lot of controversy and had to deal with a lot of things, but through it all, with a few mistakes, he got to where he wanted to be (or seemed to be headed in that direction).
Black Boy was a piece of literature that proves with hard work and dedication anything can be achieved. Wright didn’t have the ideal setting for a good childhood but he made due with what he had and started a new life for himself. I learned from reading his work that it is every important to connect with your reader and be able to relate with them or else, a writing piece can some time seem worthless.

Rich or Famous

Is it better to be rich or famous? That seems to be the question that everyone has a different answer to. Many people believe that with fame comes fortune and to some degree that is true. Many people also cannot deal with the lack of privacy or constant criticism that comes along with fame. Others on the other side of the coin love the attention and love that comes with fame. Being rich is someone that a lot of people aspire to be in life. But being rich is not always the same. Every person is different which means that they have different views and opinions about what is best for them.

2010 NFL Draft

Most people think that girls don't like sports and know nothing about them but i personally the opposite. I don't play any sports because i have no coordination or balance but i know everything about them. The latest in football (which is personally my favorite sport) is the 2010 NFL Draft. The draft is the time when the college students that have true potentially get the chance to play football professionally. My favorite player that was drafted number 15 by the Dallas Cowboys. The number 1 pick in the 2010 draft was Sam Bradford from Oklahoma State. i love sports as much as the next guy and i can hang with the best of them on football Sunday!

Vandalism: Expression or Destruction

There is a time and place for everything in life. Many people view vandalism as a way for others to express themselves and show their inner-most feelings. I personally believe that vandalism is art within its self but to deface to property of someone else is wrong. Everything happens for a reason and vandalism is no exception. People use vandalism to express what they want. Other people see it as total destruction of property. Vandalism: Expression or Destruction.

Erin the Fighter!!

I grew up in a household were I was told that you always defend yourself. I was also told that I wasn't supposed to go looking for trouble but I wasn't to walk away and always stand up for myself. The first time that I got into a fight was when I was in the fifth grade and I was on a field trip at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. I was standing in line to ride the submarine and this other girl was also standing in line. She wanted to get in front of me but I wouldn't allow. She had to wait her turn just like I had. when she tried to get in front of me, she pushed me so I pushed her back and that began to fight. I wasn't looking for trouble that day and that is when I realized that some people will try and test you and sometimes it is necessary to stand up for yourself.

Fire that Burns

My experiences with fire have been far from good. I have learned that dealing with fire in my life can cause nothing but trouble for me. When I was younger and my older brother was staying with us I had my first true encounter with fire. He thought that it would be a good idea to play with the matches. Of course he didn't want us to see so he went into the bathroom. He found a can of hairspray and began lighting the matches. Little to his knowledge, every time he would light the match and set spray to it, all the flames went straight to the ceiling. When my parents came home and saw the hole in the ceiling, he didn't want to confess that it was him so we all got punished, much like how the character in Black Boy did. I have learned that fire is not something that can bring pleasure to my life.

Power Abusers

Everyone is going to have problems with someone else in their life time. I personally think that most of this conflict will come with people of a higher power and the ones that abuse it. People of power believe that they are correct and have the right to treat someone anyway simply because of the power the have. If you have power, never abuse it. Know your limits to the power that you have and never be above paying prices for the abuse you give.

About Erin

I am a 14 year girl from Rochester New York. I am a student at School of the Arts and i am in the 9th grade.
